It is also unforgiving about subfloor flatness — LVP telegraphs every dip and ridge underneath it. Getting that right is most of the job, and it is the part we do not shortcut.

Mohawk SolidTech: waterproof against spills from above
Mohawk's SolidTech LVP is warranted waterproof against topical water, such as spills and mop water. That warranty does not cover moisture coming from below the floor, flooding, or damage to the subfloor, so a slab still has to meet Mohawk's SolidTech moisture limit before it goes down. Within those limits, it is a sensible choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and entries. It is also warmer and quieter underfoot than tile, which is why plenty of clients use it across an entire ground floor rather than switching materials room to room.

Flat matters more than anything else
LVP is thin and, in floating installations, it is not bonded to what is underneath. Every hollow, ridge, trowel line and old adhesive ridge in the slab shows up as a visible dip or a seam that flexes underfoot — and a seam that flexes eventually separates. Slab-on-grade homes here frequently need grinding or levelling compound before a plank floor is worth installing. We check flatness with a straightedge across the whole area, quote the prep honestly, and do it, because it is the difference between a floor that looks poured-flat and one that looks like a rushed job.

Almost always the subfloor. LVP is thin and follows what is under it; a dip in the slab becomes a hollow underfoot, and a floating plank spanning that dip will flex at the seam until it separates. This is why we check flatness across the whole area and quote levelling as a real line item rather than discovering it on install day.
