Hardwood Flooring
Solid hardwood installed by trained craftsmen, acclimated properly and laid over a subfloor we flatten first.
Solid hardwood is still the floor that buyers ask for by name, and it is the least forgiving one to install. Board width, moisture content, subfloor flatness and the direction you run the run all decide whether it looks right in ten years or gaps by next August. Mr. Wright Flooring has been installing hardwood across Duval and Clay counties since 2012, and every job is supervised by a team leader who keeps the install inside the manufacturer's warranty guidelines.
What Our Clients Say
Unedited reviews from Northeast Florida homeowners. We hold a 5.0 rating across 40 Google reviews — the highest of any flooring company in the local market.
Why Choose Hardwood Flooring
Expert installation by skilled craftsmen
Our professionally trained craftsmen take the time to get the details right — precise measurements, tight seams, clean transitions at every doorway, and trim work that looks intentional instead of patched. Solid hardwood is milled to tolerances that punish a rushed install: a subfloor that is out by a quarter inch over ten feet will telegraph through the finished floor as hollow spots and movement underfoot. We flatten first, then lay. As a family-owned business, the person who supervises your job is accountable for it, and that is the whole reason our floors still look right years later.
- Room-by-room measurement, taken on site rather than off a plan
- Subfloor flattened and prepared before the first board goes down
- Boards acclimated on site to your home's actual conditions
- Clean transitions, thresholds and trim at every doorway

Why hardwood behaves differently in Northeast Florida
Northeast Florida is hard on floors in ways that are easy to miss until something fails. Summer humidity runs high for months at a time, most homes here sit on a concrete slab rather than a crawlspace, and that slab gives off moisture vapor long after it looks and feels dry. A floor that was never acclimated, or that was laid over a slab nobody tested, will cup, gap, or lift — usually in the second summer, and usually outside whatever the installer told you about their warranty. We test first and we install to the manufacturer's spec, because that is the only version of this job that lasts.
- Moisture testing on the slab or subfloor before material is ordered
- On-site acclimation so boards reach equilibrium with your home
- Correct expansion gaps at every wall and vertical obstruction
- Honest advice when engineered hardwood is the better choice for your slab
Materials & Systems We Work With
White and red oak — the regional default, and the easiest to match later
Maple and hickory for harder-wearing, tighter-grained floors
Prefinished solid hardwood for a faster, lower-dust installation
Site-finished hardwood where a seamless surface or a custom stain matters
The Advantages of Professional Hardwood Flooring
Our Hardwood Flooring Process
Free in-home estimate
We come out, measure the actual rooms, and look at what is under your current floor. Measuring off a floor plan is how jobs end up short on material.
Moisture and subfloor check
We test the slab or subfloor for moisture and check it for flatness before anything is ordered. In this climate that reading decides which products are safe to install.
Written estimate
You get the material, the labor, the removal and haul-away, and the prep work itemized — so you can see what you are paying for and compare it honestly.
Removal and subfloor prep
Old flooring comes out and leaves with us. We flatten and prepare the subfloor first, because every flooring failure we get called to fix started underneath.
Installation and walkthrough
Our craftsmen install, clean up as they go, and walk the finished floor with you before the crew leaves.

Hardwood Flooring — Frequently Asked Questions
Sometimes, but it is the wrong default. Most homes here are slab-on-grade, and a slab releases moisture vapor for years. Solid hardwood over a slab requires a proper vapor barrier and a subfloor system, and even then the moisture reading has to come back acceptable. We test the slab before recommending anything. If the numbers say solid hardwood is a risk in your home, we will tell you that and show you the engineered option instead — that conversation is cheaper than a failed floor.
It depends on the product and on the difference between our warehouse conditions and your home, which is why there is no single honest number. What matters is that the boards reach equilibrium with the space they are going into, with the HVAC running the way you live. We deliver material ahead of the install and check it rather than working to a fixed countdown. Skipping this step is the single most common cause of gapping and cupping we get called out to look at.
Yes. Removal and haul-away are part of the quote, itemized so you can see the cost. We also prepare the subfloor underneath, which is where most of the real work is.
Yes, and most homeowners do not find that out until they file a claim. Flooring manufacturers publish installation guidelines covering moisture limits, fastener schedules, expansion gaps and subfloor tolerances, and a warranty claim gets denied when the install did not follow them. Every one of our projects is supervised by an experienced team leader specifically to keep the work inside those guidelines.
It depends on the species, the grade, the square footage, and how much prep the subfloor needs — and that last one is the reason a phone quote is not worth much. We measure on site, test the subfloor, and give you a written estimate that separates material, labor, removal and prep. The consultation is free.
