Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Real wood over a stable core — a hardwood Mohawk says can go over most concrete slabs that meet its limits.
Engineered hardwood gives you a genuine wood wear layer over a layered wood core that Mohawk describes as engineered to be dimensionally stable. In a market where most homes sit on a concrete slab and summer humidity runs high for months, that stability is not a compromise — for a lot of Jacksonville homes it is simply the correct product. We install it the way the manufacturer specifies, which is what keeps the warranty intact.

Why Choose Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Why engineered hardwood suits this market
A solid board is one piece of wood, so it expands and contracts across its width every time the moisture in your home changes. An engineered board is built from several layers of wood bonded together, and Mohawk says its engineered hardwood is engineered to be dimensionally stable and suitable for all grade levels where excessive moisture conditions do not exist. You still get a real hardwood surface — the same species, the same finish options — but the house still has to stay within the manufacturer's humidity range.
- Engineered to be dimensionally stable, per Mohawk's installation instructions
- Approved for slab-on-grade installation when moisture readings allow
- Real hardwood wear layer, not a printed image
- Available in glue-down, nail-down and floating installations

Installed to the manufacturer's specification
Northeast Florida is hard on floors in ways that are easy to miss until something fails. Summer humidity runs high for months at a time, most homes here sit on a concrete slab rather than a crawlspace, and that slab gives off moisture vapor long after it looks and feels dry. A floor that was never acclimated, or that was laid over a slab nobody tested, will cup, gap, or lift — usually in the second summer, and usually outside whatever the installer told you about their warranty. We test first and we install to the manufacturer's spec, because that is the only version of this job that lasts.
- Calcium chloride or in-situ RH testing on slabs before install
- Moisture mitigation or the correct adhesive system where readings require it
- Correct expansion gaps maintained at every perimeter
- Flatness corrected with patch or levelling compound, not shimmed over

The Advantages of Professional Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Our Engineered Hardwood Flooring Process
Free in-home estimate
We come out, measure the actual rooms, and look at what is under your current floor. Measuring off a floor plan is how jobs end up short on material.
Moisture and subfloor check
We test the slab or subfloor for moisture and check it for flatness before anything is ordered. In this climate that reading decides which products are safe to install.
Written estimate
You get the material, the labor, the removal and haul-away, and the prep work itemized — so you can see what you are paying for and compare it honestly.
Removal and subfloor prep
Old flooring comes out and leaves with us. We flatten and prepare the subfloor first, because every flooring failure we get called to fix started underneath.
Installation and walkthrough
Our craftsmen install, clean up as they go, and walk the finished floor with you before the crew leaves.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring — Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The surface you walk on and see is a genuine hardwood veneer of the species you chose. What differs is the core underneath — several layers of wood bonded together instead of one solid piece — and Mohawk describes that construction as engineered to be dimensionally stable.
It depends on the wear layer. A thicker wear layer can usually take at least one sanding and refinish; a thin one cannot. Refinishing is not a service we perform, but if it matters to you long-term, ask about wear-layer thickness at the consultation before you choose a product.
No. It is still wood, and Mohawk's TecWood Essentials, Select and Plus floors carry only a wet-resistance warranty: spills left longer than 30 minutes may damage the floor and void that warranty. For a bathroom, a laundry or a home where spills are routine, Mohawk's SolidTech LVP is warranted waterproof against spills from above, and we will recommend it.
Always. Concrete gives off moisture vapor for a long time, and every flooring manufacturer sets a limit above which their warranty does not apply. We test, we document the reading, and if it comes back too high we address it with a mitigation system or adhesive rated for that level rather than installing and hoping.
If you want real wood underfoot and the room stays reasonably dry, engineered hardwood. If the room sees water, or the household includes large dogs and young kids, LVP is more forgiving, and Mohawk's SolidTech LVP is warranted waterproof against spills from above. We install both and we have no reason to push you toward either one — we would rather you be happy with the floor in five years.
Two ways to get engineered hardwood flooring in your home
You can buy the material from us and have us install it, or have us install material you already bought somewhere else. Both are normal here.
Buy it from us
We carry Mohawk, Happy Feet, Nuvelle, Lux. Material bought through us is covered for 2 years instead of 1 year. When we supply the floor as well as lay it, the installation is covered for 2 years too. Financing is available through Synchrony.

We install material you already own. Same craftsmen, same subfloor preparation, same supervision. No minimum job size, and an $800 minimum payment. The work carries a one-year warranty from the installation date.
